Previously Unheard Of Targeted Traffic Generator
I have just watched the most fantastic video that reveals a brand new (to me anyway) method of gaining targeted traffic to any website, and it doesn’t cost a penny to implement!
This method brought it’s originator, George Brown (who makes a lot more sense than his namesake here in the UK) in excess of 200,000 unique visitors to his sites last year, making him well over 5 figures in the process. Not bad for something that is not only free to implement, but also only takes a few minutes.
Now, you may not have heard of George before but, if this is the case, believe me you ARE going to be hearing about him in the near future. Definitely an up and coming star who talks a lot of sense.

Is This The “Magic” of Twitter?
Like everyone else who uses Twitter as a marketing medium as well as a social tool, I am taking certain actions to increase my number of followers. However, this does mean that you inevitably receive quite a lot of tweets. Although I use TweetDeck, which enables me to sort the messages into groups, it can still be a time consuming exercise – time which I would rather use for marketing.
So, in an effort to sort this problem, I opened a second Twitter account. In this new account I only followed the people whose tweets I was particularly interested in. I think the number totaled just over 50 by the time I had finished. I wasn’t particularly bothered whether they followed me back or not, I just wanted to read their tweets. I set this account up to receive all tweets in twhirl and made sure that I didn’t auto follow those who followed me. Problem solved.
Now, I expected that some, not all, of those I followed would follow me back. However, after being in existence for less than a week, that new account has 174 followers, only 29 of which are the people that I originally followed when I set the account up, and I haven’t performed a single action to encourage them! And more are following me every day. Weird or what?
Is this the “magic” of Twitter?

Trimming Twitter
It can be very easy to fall into the trap of following huge numbers of people on Twitter solely for the reason that they will follow you in return. A great way to end up with loads of followers? Not so, in my opinion.
Yes, you will end up with loads of people following you – but are they really interested in your tweets? Are you really interested in their tweets? I don’t think so. So what is the point of it all? Who gains what?
I am guilty of this very act myself. I ended up following, and having followers, in excess of 350. Not a great number compared to some, but enough to put me right off Twitter, nearly for life.
I use Twhirl to keep track automatically of tweets from people that I am following. As a result of following so many people, every time I ran Twhirl I was receiving a tweet every few minutes. If I left it running overnight I would wake up to around 500 tweets! What’s more, I found that 99% of them didn’t contain anything of interest to me. Where’s the sense in that?
The end result of that was that I just didn’t bother with Twitter at all, but this meant that I was missing out on the tweets that I did want to receive and read.
So, I have just taken the only possible step that would return me to sanity. I have stopped following hundreds of people and now only follow those that I have a true interest in. If they all, in turn, unfollow me, so be it. I want to build a list of followers that are interested in my tweets, not a load of people who will only follow me because I follow them.

Is Your Alex Jeffreys Blog Targeted?
At the end of the day, when the coaching course is finished and AJ students stop visiting each others blogs, what will your blog achieve? What will be its purpose and, more importantly, how will people find it?
It is an acknowledged fact that the cheapest and best method of getting ongoing traffic to any website is via the search engines, but I was surprised by the rankings concerning this blog when I checked them out.
If you go to http://keywordspy.com you can feed in any website URL and be told the top ten keywords that that website ranks for and their position in the search engine.
When I fed in the URL of this blog I was quite surprised to find that it is only listed under one keyword – dave everett – and that it is at number 4 (results for USA). Sounds good, but how many people will search for Dave Everett? Exactly – none.
Purely as an experiment I also fed in what is probably the most popular student blog – garryparkes.com. The result? Not listed in any search engine for any keyword. Bit of an eye opener isn’t it.
Whilst I wouldn’t suggest that we stop what we are currently using our blogs for, perhaps we should also consider the future and give our blogs a secondary purpose as well. This probably means that you need to target a defined market and start including content on your blog aimed at that market.
